Stride Treglown has appointed Rachel Bremner as regional director of its London studio, the practice has announced, as the team prepares to move to new premises in Southwark.

Bremner has been with the practice for nearly 10 years, Stride Treglown said. Her background is in education work, ranging from small schools to major university developments, and the practice cited her role on the transformation of the Grade II listed Devonport House in Greenwich as an example of her track record.

Rachel Bremner, Regional Director, said: "We've got brilliant people here, with a huge breadth of skills and experience. People who know the city inside out, and have a genuine stake in its future. I can't wait to see where that will take us."

Her profile on the practice's website says she is working alongside board director Laura Cassullo on the studio's next chapter. It also records that one of her first projects as a newly qualified architect was a small primary school extension in Devon, and that she served as an expert assessor for the Learning category of the NLA Awards in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

The London studio

Stride Treglown announced Cassullo in what it described at the time as the London Regional Director role, leading a studio of more than 20 architects and technicians; the practice has said she joined the London studio in 2023. The practice later said Cassullo and Danny Harris were joining its board of directors, alongside a transition to an Employee Ownership Trust, and that Cassullo would continue to lead the London studio.

Laura Cassullo, Board Director, said: "Rachel was actually on the panel that interviewed me when I joined Strides. She knows this studio inside out and helped shape its culture from the ground up. Having her lead our London team gives us the strongest possible foundation for what's ahead."

The practice said the London team is preparing to put down new roots in Southwark, with more details to follow. Bremner's profile says she is looking forward to the move.

Stride Treglown was founded in 1953 and says it has more than 300 specialists across nine UK studios. It describes itself as the first large UK architectural practice to become a B Corp.

Devonport House

The Devonport House scheme, for the University of Greenwich, concerns a Grade II listed former naval hospital nurses' home within the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site, according to the practice's project page.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich Planning Board resolved on 11 March 2025 to grant full planning permission and listed building consent for the applications, which the council's decision record titles Devonport House and Cooper Building, 66-68 King William Walk, under references 24/3426/F and 24/3427/L. The approved works comprise demolition of the former hotel conference centre and the restoration and upgrade of the listed building, the council record says.

The University of Greenwich announced on 12 March 2025 that the board had voted unanimously to approve its applications. Bremner's profile says early engagement with stakeholders helped the team secure that unanimous approval.

According to Stride Treglown, the design replaces a 1990s conference centre with a new extension containing a Harvard-style lecture theatre and a trading floor for stock market simulations. It also includes a 100 square metre rooftop photovoltaic array and air source heat pumps to support the university's 2030 net zero targets.

The practice said details of the London studio's Southwark premises will be announced in due course.
